Americans for Prosperity Help Local Man Fight Back Waterford Man Fed Up With High Gas Prices; Circulates Petitions to Get the Attention of Members of Congress MILWAUKEE – Phil Williamson is trying to show members of Congress that the voices of the people still matter, and Americans for Prosperity wants to help. Williamson has been circulating petitions in and around his native town of Waterford to try and get the attention of Congress when it comes to gas prices. In the petition, Williamson informs elected officials in Washington that we (the people of Wisconsin) are at our “wits end” with high oil and gas prices. The petition further calls for action from our Representatives in the form of exploration and drilling for oil in the United States, in addition to the building of new oil refineries.

MILWAUKEE - To kick off our 2nd annual Taxpayer Tailgate, AFP-WI will be hosting a stop of the nationwide Hot Air Balloon Tour! The location has been changed for this portion of the event to the AFP-WI office parking lot (1126 S. 70th St., West Allis).We had planned to hold the hot air tour stop at Miller Park, but Brewers officials have pulled our previously approved permits and said that we are no longer allowed to tether our hot air balloon there. The Taxpayer Tailgate will still occur at Miller Park - only the Hot Air Tour portion of this event has been moved.

MATC Raises Property Taxes 31 Percent in Five Years

MILWAUKEE – With the Milwaukee Area Technical College Board voting Tuesday night to increase the property tax levy 4.9 percent, Americans for Prosperity is making sure residents are aware of the tax increase and spending by the MATC Board. The proposed increase is part of the $333 million spending plan, and includes increases in wages, salaries, and health care to name a few. Germantown has been attempting to secede from the technical colleges’ district for about a year now, with this newest proposed increase fueling the discussion.

Wisconsin Loses 16,100 Jobs Since May 2007

The economic outlook in the state of Wisconsin continues to look bleak, despite the cheerful press release issued yesterday by the State Department of Workforce Development. The report claims that the unemployment rate was down .2 percent from April 2008 and .5 percent from May 2007. The federally collected data, released today from the United States Department of Labor, shows that Wisconsin had the 4th largest over-the-year percentage decrease from May 2007 to May 2008. That amounts to 16,100 jobs lost over the past year. Meanwhile, government jobs continue to grow even though the economy is suppressed. Americans for Prosperity is hoping to show Madison that type of economic growth is not sustainable.

Global Climate Change Legislation Bad for Wisconsin
May 29, 2008
MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Chapter of Americans for Prosperity is warning Wisconsin families about this “climate security act” that was introduced in the Senate by Sen. Joseph Lieberman. According to a study conducted by the Heritage Foundation, Wisconsin consumers would suffer tremendously from the introduction of this bill. The bill would, among other things, impose strict limits on the emission of six greenhouse gases, require companies to acquire federally created permits for each ton of greenhouse gas emitted, and direct the Administration to establish an international reserve allowance program.

That’s the message that the Wisconsin chapter of Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF) is releasing, along with an analysis of the federally collected data on regional and state employment and unemployment. Wisconsin experienced the fourth largest over-the-month percentage decline in employment between the months of March and April.

Ryan’s bill, which was introduced on Wednesday, would provide tax credits for families to buy health insurance, establish Medicare payments to pay for private insurance, allow workers younger than 55 to invest up to a third of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts, and give taxpayers a choice between using the current income tax code or using a simplified tax system.
